Restoration Works Begin At St Columba Falls

Tasmanian Government

Works to repair the St Columba Falls walking track are underway, following extensive damage during the severe weather event in 2024.

Minister for Parks, Nick Duigan, said the works are being delivered by George Town company CPT Engineering.

"We are delivering a new bridge, barrier fencing and visitor information booth as part of the works," Minister Duigan said.

"Repairs will reinforce retaining walls to prevent further damage, install safety railings and fencing along exposed areas and repair a landslip prevention membrane designed to stabilise the walking track.

"We're getting on with the job of delivering on repairs to one of our 60 Great Short Walks, ensuring a safe and enjoyable world class experience for all who visit these much-loved falls.

"This site is extremely important to the visitor economy of the St Helens area, and we look forward to ensuring visitors can get up close to the falls once work is complete."

The track will be closed for the duration of the work, however visitors can still view these spectacular falls from the road. The car park will remain open.

Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service have placed signage beyond the businesses on the road to the falls to ensure visitors aren't turned away before reaching those businesses.

In the meantime, visitors are encouraged to visit the newly updated Goblin Forest Walk, which has been upgraded to ensure it is accessible for all living with a disability.

The track is expected to reopen in December.
