Can the City confirm aquatic centres are barring some users depending on their postcode? Why is this being done?
The Victorian Government has imposed Stage 3 Stay at Home Restrictions on metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire. The measures aim to protect the health and safety of our community and reduce the risk of transmission. Those residents are not allowed to travel outside of the restricted areas to use indoor or outdoor swimming pools, gyms or indoor sports facilities. The City is requesting all patrons provide ID and their principal address to ensure this direction is adhered to. Residents from those postcodes are unable to book via Swim, Sport and Leisure's online system.
Can you confirm Little River residents who are CoGG ratepayers have been barred from using city pools due to their postcode? Will this restriction be reconsidered? if not, why not?
Residents who enter a restricted postcode into our pools' online booking system are prevented from completing their booking. This included Little River's 3211 postcode, which covers areas that are contained in the restricted City of Wyndham but also the City of Greater Geelong. This was brought to our attention by a Greater Geelong resident, who was subsequently allowed to book and use the Waterworld pool.
We have since removed that postcode from the list and are now asking patrons upon entry for their address. We understand that it's disappointing that residents in restricted areas are not able to visit our gyms and pools at this time. We look forward to welcoming back all of our patrons when the situation improves and restrictions are eased.
