Retaining HR Excellence in Research Award

The University has successfully retained the European Commission's HR Excellence in Research Award at the 8 year stage.

This award marks our long term commitment to improving the work and professional development experience of our research staff.

An independent panel of experts reviewed our '8 year report' and found that the University had been able to make progress against its published action plan and demonstrate suitable impact, despite the challenges presented by Covid-19 and remote working.

We're particularly excited about our new action plan for 2021-2023, which was also reviewed and approved by the external panel, and the way in which it targets those aspects of the Concordat that we feel will make the most difference to research staff at the University. Initiatives like bringing in industry focussed careers experts, and developing research staff careers champions, coupled with our research leadership cohort programmes will make a real difference to the career prospects and potential for our research staff.

Dr Andy Dixon is the Deputy Director of Research and Innovation Services and the Chair of the University's Researcher Development Group.

Lisa Rhodes is Director of Continuing Professional Development in Research and Innovation Services and leads on the Research and Innovation Development Programme.
