As Cadets, some joined when they were as young as 15.5 years old.

On turning 19, they started their police training with three months of intense study in law and police duties at the Police Depot on Petrie Terrace. They also studied first aid, life saving, and civil defence.

They visited the mounted police at Oxley for a horse riding test, water police for a boat rowing test, and the police garage for a driving test.

Their swearing in ceremony was conducted on the parade ground at the Petrie Terrace Depot on March 21, 1960.

It was great to see the retired officers reminiscing about their experience and different careers in policing.
