Retirement of Basketball Tasmania Chief Executive Officer Chris McCoy

Jane Howlett,Minister for Sport and Recreation

On behalf of the Tasmanian Government, I want to thank outgoing Basketball Tasmania's Chief Executive Officer Chris McCoy for his commitment to the sport.

Chris joined Basketball Tasmania in February 2013, following a successful career in marketing and events in sports including basketball.

Over the last nine years Chris has worked closely with the Tasmanian Government to ensure the sport of Basketball is safe, fair and inclusive for all Tasmanians to enjoy.

Under his leadership, Basketball Tasmania has positioned itself as one of the sports of choice for Tasmanians, with participation rates at an all-time high and an over 50 per cent increase in registered players during his tenure.

These achievements are a credit to Chris and his dedication to the sport.

This year we will see the Tasmanian JackJumpers enter into the National Basketball League, which is testament to the strong position of basketball in our State.

I'd like to personally thank Chris for his contribution to Basketball in our state of Tasmania and I wish him all the best into the future after he retires in February 2021.

The appointment of a new Basketball Tasmania CEO will take place over coming months.
