Holiday season can mean adventures overseas for some of us - but what you bring back matters. Exploring new destinations is exciting, however it's important to remember that what you bring back home can pose serious risks to our agriculture, environment and way of life.
From 30 November 2025 to 7 February 2026, our International Traveller and Biosecurity Awareness campaign is live across social media and digital channels. It reminds returning residents and international visitors that certain items cannot be brought into Australia.
Items that you cannot bring into Australia include:
- fresh fruit and vegetables
- meat and animal products
- seeds
- plants and plant products such as wooden souvenirs.
Bringing these items into Australia can introduce pests and diseases that threaten our farms, native species and way of life. Australia's unique biodiversity must be protected, and we all have an important role to play in keeping Australia free from these harmful pests and diseases.
Before you pack, consider these important rules:
- do not bring fresh food, plants or plant materials, seeds or animal products into Australia
- declare all goods on your Incoming Passenger Card
- penalties of up to $6,600 may apply for undeclared biosecurity risk items.
