Revamped Carinity Aged Care Home Goes "from Old To Wow"

Judith Marks reckons her home has gone "from old to wow".

The first two stages one of a multi-million dollar renovation of Carinity Clifford House have been completed - and Judith was "gobsmacked" when she first saw the upgrade of the Grevillea and Melaleuca wings of the aged care home.

"I thought it was going to be good - but it was unbelievable. It's gone from an old building to a 'wow' building," she said.

"You would think the place was only just recently put here. It's beautiful and it really is a credit to Carinity and the builders."

Carinity Executive Manager Residential Aged Care, Heidi Weibe, said with the input of residents the refurbished Clifford House preserves the site's history while enhancing functionality, comfort and aesthetics for current and future residents and families.

Among the notable changes in the revamped wings are lounge areas that have been enriched with home-like touches, and artwork that was thoughtfully selected to foster engagement and evoke positive emotions for the residents.

Outdated window treatments and security grilles in resident rooms have been removed, and new fluted walls and ceiling panelling into the dining area reduces noise and improves its aesthetic appeal.

Accessibility for residents in wheelchairs has been improved, including much larger room doors, while each room has its own private ensuite with toilet and bathroom. These are welcome upgrades for Judith, whose mobility is limited.

"There are also other new things in my room which makes it a lot better for me, being in a wheelchair. To be quite honest, you can't fault it," said Judith, who also loves her new in-room refrigerator and large television.

"We go out shopping once a month, and now I've got fridge so I can buy my own extra fruit."

Originally from Mildura, Judith has loved life at Carinity Clifford House, located in Wooloowin in Brisbane, since she joined the seniors' community almost three years ago.

"I've most enjoyed the friendships I've made, and the nurses are fantastic," Judith said.

"It feels like you're living in a hotel because you've got great service here, and the rooms are nice. Some nights I won't go out for tea and they will bring my meal into me, which is great.

"The cook's good; I ask him for certain things and I get it. I'm very fussy with my food but they accommodate me. Everything they do here is for the residents. It's lovely."

The third stage of the Carinity Clifford House makeover has just begun, and Judith is keenly anticipating future upgrades to the upper floor of the aged care home.

"When they change it all upstairs everything here will be new. This place will be looking like a palace."
