Rewarding our Paralympic medal winners

Jane Howlett,Minister for Sport and Recreation

The Tasmanian Liberal Government welcomes the decision from the Australian Government to reward Australia's Paralympic athletes for winning medals at the Tokyo Games in line with the payments to our Tokyo Olympic medallists.

This is a fantastic result for our Paralympians who have worked extremely hard to achieve their dreams, and like our athletes who represented Australia at the Olympic Games, make many sacrifices to represent our nation at the Paralympic Games.

Our athletes inspire many young Australians to strive to follow in their footsteps, and they deserve to be held in the same regard as our Olympic athletes.

Congratulations to Tasmanian-born Paralympians Alexandra Viney and Todd Hodgetts OAM who have represented their State and Country with pride, and I look forward to watching fellow Tasmanian Deon Kenzie compete in the men's 1500m T38 event tomorrow night.
