Rider charged over serious traffic offences

A 21-year-old Jackeys Marsh man will face court over a series of serious traffic offences in Launceston throughout September.

The man allegedly evaded police on three separate occasions, while riding an unregistered red CRF 450cc dirt bike dangerously through traffic in the Launceston CBD, running multiple red lights and riding at speed through the Brisbane Street Mall on two occasions.

The rider was arrested after allegedly evading police a third time by Launceston uniform officers conducting patrols at Invermay on September 22.

His dirt bike has been confiscated and he was charged with three counts of Reckless driving, three counts of Evading police (aggravated circumstances), four counts of Use unregistered motor vehicle, four counts of Drive whilst not the holder of a driver licence and Using a motor vehicle with no premium cover.

He was bailed to appear at the Launceston Magistrates Court at a later date.

Police are asking anyone with dash cam footage of an unregistered off-road motorcycle driving dangerously in the Launceston CBD on 15 September about 10.50pm and 21 September about 10.40pm to come forward.
