Police are reminding attendees of the Rising Tide event in Newcastle this weekend to follow safety advice and the directions of police.
In response to the planned event, a high-visibility police operation will be conducted to ensure the safety of attendees and the wider community.
For everyone's safety, we request that people who attend the event refrain from entering the harbour on kayaks or other vessels with the intention to obstruct users of the port.
Under NSW legislation, the safe passage of vessels is protected. The NSW Police Force will adopt a zero-tolerance approach to actions which threaten public safety and the safe passage of vessels.
We encourage all attendees to follow the directions of police and refrain from engaging in other forms of civil disobedience.
Unlawful activity may result in substantial penalties including fines and imprisonment.
Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, Transport for NSW has declared that an Exclusion Zone will be established on the navigable waters of Newcastle Harbour between 7am tomorrow (Friday 28 November 2025) and 7am on Monday 1 December 2025.
Only vessels that have been authorised by a Maritime or Police Officer may transit directly through the Zone in accordance with any directions given. Vessel operators navigating the transit zone must comply with any direction given by a Maritime or Police Officer.

The NSW Police Force recognises and supports the rights of individuals and groups to exercise their rights of free speech and peaceful assembly; however, the priority for NSW Police is always the safety of the wider community and there will be zero tolerance for illegal and dangerous behaviour.
