Riverside Facilities Close Amid Fitzroy River Surge

As Rockhampton Regional Council continues to monitor ongoing Fitzroy River conditions several riverside facilities already closed due to rising water levels, with more closures planned by the weekend.

The following Riverside Park – Quay Street facilities are now closed:

Riverside Park – Quay St

  • Boathouse Amenities – Lower Riverside
  • Riverside Wet Play
  • Lift at Riverside
  • Barbecue's, drink fountains and waste bins will be removed by the end of the week.

Isolation of some lighting will also occur, and fishing platforms will also be closed in the coming days.

Further closures, facility removals and isolations will also take place from Friday, 16 January:

Riverside Park – Quay St

  • It is recommended residents avoid the Riverside Park Playground.

Ski Gardens

  • Barbecues, electricity, and amenities will be isolated/removed.

Huish Drive

  • Fishing pontoons isolated
  • Barbecues removed
  • No power or lighting

Botanic Gardens Lagoon

  • Barbecues will be removed

Norbridge & Cyril Connel Park

  • Isolated and closed

Stapleton Park

  • Amenities at Stapleton Park will be closed, Benke Park amenities will remain open as an alternative 200m away.

Council will keep the community updated as clearer information becomes available on predicted peak heights, inundation areas and preparation advice.
