Riverside Green Transformation Continues With Second Playground On Way

Council is gearing up to further expand the Riverside Green District Park at Douglas, with works to install a second playground suitable for toddlers and younger children due to start this week.

The next stage of the Riverside Green Open Space Renewal Project will see new play equipment, picnic tables and shade structures added to the playground area, as well as shade structures to the main dog off-leash area and landscaping works to all areas.

Stage 1 of the project was completed late last year, delivering an older kids' playground featuring slides, swings and a climbing obstacle, and barbecue and picnic facilities, as well as addressing drainage issues, adding shade structures and relocating the small dog off-leash area.

Divisional councillor Suzy Batkovic said local families had made good use of the renewed space over the last 12 months, and she was looking forward to the next stage being added.

"I've had excellent feedback from residents about the renewed park over the past 12 months, and it's been great to see it so well-utilised," Cr Batkovic said.

"The new playground has been a big hit with the older kids, and it's great that the park will soon have something for even our littlest residents to enjoy.

"It will be great to see this park catering for different ages, which makes it easier for families to enjoy the space together and, with the dog park right there, even the four-legged family members don't miss out.

"Council is committed to activating public spaces and encouraging residents to be active and enjoy the outdoors, and we hope the new playground at Riverside Green adds to the growing list of family-friendly options across the city."

In total, Council has invested $1,795,000 into the renewal of the playground and amenities at Riverside Green.

Stage 2a of the project is expected to take two months to complete, with works commencing on 15 October.
