Swan Hill Rural City Council is excited to announce the completion of the Ten Steps replacement project at Riverside Park in Swan Hill.
Council's Mayor, Cr Stuart King, said the project has delivered the replacement of the iconic Ten Steps along with construction of a new three-tiered retaining wall designed to stabilise and protect the riverbank - significantly enhancing amenity along our magnificent Murray River frontage.
"These works have breathed new life into our Riverside Park precinct, further creating fresh welcoming spaces and strengthening the way our community and visitors experience the Murray River.
The newly completed retaining wall is a game‑changer for the riverfront-protecting the riverbank from erosion and safeguarding this much‑loved community landmark for generations to come," Cr King said".
With the major structural works now complete, attention will turn to the installation of a new boat mooring platform, which will generate a whole new way of accessing the river for recreational activities.
The new mooring platform will include an accessible gangway and floating pontoon system designed to accommodate fluctuations in river levels. The structure will provide a safe, stable and convenient short-term berthing point for recreational vessels, house boats, kayaks and other small craft, enabling boat users to come ashore and enjoy Riverside Park's facilities and access the CBD.
Importantly, the platform has been designed to improve accessibility for people of all abilities, creating greater opportunities for inclusive participation in river-based recreation and events.
Cr King said the combined upgrades are expected to be transformative for the region.
"These improvements strengthen Swan Hill's position as a premier riverfront destination. By improving infrastructure and access, we are encouraging increased visitation, supporting local tourism and enhancing liveability for our residents," he said.
The enhancements complement Riverside Park's existing features, including walking paths, active play areas and the popular skate park, further cementing the precinct as a central hub for recreation, tourism and community connection.
This project has been delivered in partnership with the Australian Government, through funding from the Growing Regions Program and Disaster Recovery Funds. Together, these programs are contributing more than $6 million towards several important local initiatives. Further projects will also be delivered in Swan Hill and Robinvale, including the Pental Island Pedestrian Bridge and the Robinvale Riverfront Terraces enhancement project.
Council thanks the community for its patience during construction and looks forward to seeing residents and visitors enjoy the upgraded riverfront precinct for years to come.
