Road Safety Upgrades Begin at Banfield St. Crossing

Ararat Rural City Council have completed roadworks this week on a crucial infrastructure project aimed at significantly improving road safety for local school children and pedestrians in Ararat.

Work to install speed cushions and improved road signage have been carried out at the Ararat West Primary School crossing located on Banfield Street, between Hucker Street and Clarke Street.

Made from durable rubber, these speed cushions are a cost-effective and quick-to-install solution for improving road user and pedestrian safety.

Speed cushions will be installed on both sides of Banfield Street with the objective of reducing driver speeds and promoting responsible driving practices within the established school zone.

This project is supported by the Road Safety Program, a grants program that is jointly funded through the State and Federal Governments.

The Road Safety Program supports the fast roll-out of lifesaving road safety treatments on rural and regional roads and promotes greater protection for vulnerable road users, such as cyclists and pedestrians.

"The safety of our community is something we take very seriously," says Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr Tim Harrison.

"The primary goal of these road upgrades is to improve road safety, particularly for our most vulnerable road users. We're confident these new road safety features will promote more responsible driving practices within our community."
