The Rockhampton Local Disaster Management Group is continuing preparations for a 7.5 metre flood peak, now expected on Thursday morning, 22 January, following the latest Bureau of Meteorology forecast.
The Fitzroy River is forecast to reach 7 metres today, exceeding the minor flood level, and will continue to rise with exact peak timing dependent on how quickly floodwaters move through the catchments.
Residents in low lying areas are urged to review the latest information and flood maps and take any necessary steps to prepare.
Lakes Creek Road has reopened as predicted peak levels have slowed, however closures may be reinstated as water levels rise.
Rockhampton Regional Council crews are conducting hourly inspections of high risk local roads in anticipation of potential closures. Council will continue to monitor conditions closely and advise of any changes as required.
