The Fitzroy River is expected to peak near 7.30 metres this afternoon on the high tide, with minor flooding, based on current Bureau of Meteorology advice.

The Rockhampton Local Disaster Management Group is advising residents in low-lying areas to continue to monitor conditions and take any necessary precautions.

The community is urged to avoid entering, playing or swimming in flood waters as they pose serious health risks that may lead to severe illness. There could also be large, loose debris, strong currents and dangerous animals swimming.

Rockhampton Regional Council crews are conducting inspections of local roads and will provide updates as changes occur via the Emergency Dashboard.

Council will continue to monitor flood heights and will update the community as flood waters recede, urging residents to be patient before starting clean-up efforts.

Stay up to date via Council's Emergency Dashboard or contact the Local Disaster Coordination Centre on 1300 652 659.
