Rockhampton Zoo has recommenced its Under Five's Program for the year, kicking things off with a fully booked session earlier this week.
The session featured a special focus on all things birds, with young participants exploring feathers, colours and the exotic species that call Rockhampton Zoo home.
Chair for Sports, Parks and Public Spaces, Councillor Cherie Rutherford, said it was wonderful to see such strong support from the community, with the session welcoming over 30 children and caregivers.
"The Under Five's Program is one of our most loved activities, and it's wonderful to see families returning to enjoy these mornings," Cr Rutherford said.
"Its return for 2026 was well‑anticipated, booking out within just a few hours of the event being published.
"These free events are a fantastic opportunity for families to learn and explore together, and of course, the location of the zoo makes them all the more special."
The session included a visit to the Macaw enclosure, followed by a reading of Feathers for Phoebe by Rod Clement, and bird themed arts and crafts.
Rockhampton Zoo Director, Liz Bellward, said the zoo is excited to continue to roll out such a range of programs for the community and make use of the Visitor Hub's education space.
"The zoo provides such a unique and inspiring environment for young children, and it's really great to be able to host programs like this," Ms Bellward said.
"The sessions also help build early connections with wildlife, which is something we're very proud of.
"We have another five Under Fives Program sessions scheduled for this year, so be sure to follow Rockhampton Zoo's Facebook page for upcoming booking details.
"There are plenty of other activities for community members to enjoy as well, such as Zoo Story Time, Community Conservation Workshops, and our Seniors Morning Teas."
