Rossi boots resurrected

Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni said the rebirth of Rossi Boots highlights the strength of the South Australian economy despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic.

"I'm thrilled that new owners have resurrected the Adelaide factory manufacturing Rossi Boots and the jobs that investment has created," said Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni.

"South Australia has enjoyed strong investment and jobs growth during the last 12 months as the new owner's investment in Rossi's Adelaide factory demonstrates.

"Rossi Boots survival and expansion plans are a wonderful jobs story of how quality South Australian made boots can flourish in the fiercely competitive footwear market.

"It also points to the strength of the manufacturing sector in South Australia that is creating jobs in the defence and high tech sectors as well more traditional industries.

"The Marshall Government's policies lowering the cost of electricity, water and taxes and our increased investment in skills training has made South Australia an attractive place to invest for national and international companies.

"As a result of the Marshall Government's strong economic policies South Australia's unemployment rate is now at a 12 year low at 4.7 per cent and 10,700 jobs were created in the month of July alone.

"South Australia leads the nation for jobs growth, creating 32,800 jobs since the beginning of the year and now has more people in jobs than ever before.

"South Australia is now on the verge of effective full employment for the first time in a generation.

"The Marshall Government will work with Rossi Boots to ensure it has the skilled workforce it needs expand production and deliver more rewarding jobs for South Australians.

"South Australia had the highest percentage increase in the country for apprentice and trainee commencements in the year to 31 December 2020, up 21.5 per cent compared to 2019.

"We also led the nation with the largest percentage increase in the number of apprentices and trainees in-training as at 31 December 2020 compared to the same time in 2019.

"There are great State and Federal Government incentives for businesses to take on apprentices or trainees.

"The South Australian Government is delivering a skilled workforce that is contributing to the state's economic boom."
