Premier Jeremy Rockliff and Department of Health Secretary Kathrine Morgan-Wicks have thanked staff at the Royal Hobart Hospital – including those scheduled to be on duty and those who have returned to duty from leave – and Ambulance Tasmania for their dedication to the health and safety of patients, and to their fellow colleagues.
As a result of their commitment, the RHH has been safely staffed over the New Year period, which is a traditionally very busy time for hospitals, and has today been able to stand down the Code Yellow that has been in place since Wednesday 28 December 2022.
Premier Rockliff thanked all our health staff for their outstanding efforts during what has been a very challenging Christmas and New Year period.
"I would like to thank all our health staff who have worked during this exceptionally busy Christmas and New Year period, including those who have returned from leave," the Premier said.
"While the pressure on our hospital and ambulance services is not unique to Tasmania, our staff have done an amazing job continuing to provide high-quality care, under very challenging circumstances.
"Our Government is investing record amounts to alleviate these challenges, including fast-tracking additional treatment points in the RHH ED, which will come on board as staffing allows in the first half of this year, and will double the treatment points currently available by 2026.
"Across the Tasmanian Health Service 225 additional beds have been added since 2018, with additional beds to be opened in 2023.
