His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh has visited the Cardiff University-hosted charity UCAN Productions (Unique Creative Arts Network) to find out more about its pioneering work
Based at the University's School of Optometry, UCAN is a performance and creative arts charity for blind and partially sighted children, young people, adults, and their friends.
During the visit, the Duke of Edinburgh learned more about UCAN's specialised programmes which directly address the lack of performance and creative arts-based activities for blind and partially sighted children and young people in Wales.
The Duke of Edinburgh met with members of UCAN Productions, and the event included performances by pianist and UCAN Member, Rachel Starritt, as well as a vocal performance from UCAN's Peer-to-Peer Engagement Officer, Florence Waddington.
Jane Latham BEM, an Honorary Associate at Cardiff University and Development Director at UCAN Productions, said: "We were honoured to welcome His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, to UCAN Productions at the Cardiff University School of Optometry.
"It was a truly memorable experience for all involved, and our Members thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to meet The Duke of Edinburgh."

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to His Royal Highness for choosing to visit us and for taking the time to learn more about the work we do.
Founded in 2005 UCAN currently has over 700 members in Wales - extending its activity throughout the UK and Europe. The charity aims to improve physical and vocal confidence among its members, raising aspirations, promoting individual abilities, and challenging the perceptions of the sighted world.
