Twenty community groups shared $6,800 in Corangamite Shire Council Ready Now Grants from July to September.

Under the Ready Now Grants program, grants of up to $500 are available to eligible community groups to support small-scale activities and projects which benefit Corangamite Shire communities.

Mayor Kate Makin said the Ready Now Grant program has an annual budget allocation of $25,000.

"It is really encouraging to see 10 of the applications were for support to run RUOK? events.

"We called out to the community to get behind the official RUOK? Day, which was on 11 September this year but every day is RUOK? Day.

"Especially in tough times like we have had over the past couple of years, it's just being a good friend and neighbour to ask, 'Are you OK?'."

ruok.org.au has found 69% of Australians asked someone "Are you OK?" at least once in the past month, showing we're more aware, and more willing, than in days gone by to reach out and support those who may be struggling.

"We still have $18,200 in the Ready Now Budget for this year so I encourage community groups to reach out and see if we can help," Cr Makin said.

"A lot of community groups run on the smell of an oily rag and these small amounts can make the difference between a valuable project or event happening or not happening."
