SA Police at Christmas Pageant

Whilst the Christmas Pageant will look a little different this year, members of the public can expect to see close monitoring by SA Police at tomorrow's event.

With 25,000 people expected to attend the Christmas Pageant at Adelaide Oval tomorrow night, members of the public are being urged to be careful on the roads, to look out for young children and to take care of themselves and others.

Police will be at the event monitoring crowds and any anti-social behaviour. Police are encouraging event patrons to have fun, report any suspicious behaviour and to be vigilant with personal belongings which can easily be missed during the hype of an event.

Officer in Charge, Eastern District, Superintendent Craig Wall wants families to enjoy the celebrations that tomorrow night will offer.

"Whilst Adelaide Oval is a familiar location for many, it is easy for children to lose orientation and stray from their parents and caregivers, particularly during the mass exit from the venue.

"I encourage event patrons to utilise wristbands supplied on the night and to take a photo of their child at the event to help us reunite lost children in the event that a child goes missing."

Superintendent Wall also said that the event has an approved COVID-19 safe management plan but it is important that those at the event adhere to good COVID-19 safe practices.

"Good hygiene and social distancing is vital for those attending the event. Arrive early to avoid getting caught up in large crowds and don't forget to bring your own hand sanitiser."

Police also remind members of the public that the two best viewing spots for this event are either with a ticket at the Adelaide Oval or at home. Congregating outside the venue in hopes of hearing or seeing the event will only leave people feeling disappointed.

Whilst ticket holders are able to catch free public transport to and from the venue, those driving into the city should be prepared for some delays with the southern end of War Memorial Drive being closed and speed and lane restrictions surrounding Adelaide Oval. All road users should be extra vigilant and look out for young children who can easily be unseen on the roads.
