Safer Rest Stop On Hume Highway

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

Drivers on the Hume Freeway will soon have a safer and more comfortable place to stop, with upgrades underway at Barry's Bay Rest Area (approx. 70 kilometres north of Melbourne).

The $2.6 million project, funded by the Albanese and Allan Governments, includes upgraded walkways, lighting and toilet facilities, clearer parking zones for heavy and light vehicles, road resurfacing, and improved safety barriers.

Barry's Bay is used by thousands of drivers, including heavy vehicles, every day.

These upgrades will support safer journeys and help reduce driver fatigue.

Works are underway and expected to be completed by the end of July, weather permitting.

The rest area will be closed during this time.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternative rest stops.
