Northern Territory Police are conducting a search operation following reports of a small aircraft crash near Groote Eylandt earlier today.
About 11:40am, the Joint Emergency Services Communications Centre received a report that a small aircraft had crashed into the water near Isle Woodah.
The incident was witnessed from a vessel in the area.
Initial information indicates the pilot was the only recorded occupant of the aircraft; however, police are continuing to confirm the number of people on board.
Police have since arrived in the area and are conducting searches; however, at this stage no aircraft wreckage or persons have been located.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified, and police are working closely with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority to confirm the circumstances of the crash.
