Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has finalised the sale of surplus land at the former Council Nursery site in Middle Ridge.
The two‑hectare site has been purchased by CJAM Group, paving the way for new homes to be delivered in line with Council's Planning Scheme and the long‑term vision for the Toowoomba Region.
TRC Economic Development portfolio spokesperson Cr Edwina Farquhar said the decision represents a strong step forward in addressing local housing demand and supporting housing diversity in our well located suburbs.
"There is no question our community needs more housing options and Council is committed to progressing developments that genuinely make a difference. Making surplus land available is one of the levers we can use to support that goal," she said.
"Importantly, we're ensuring this happens in a way that delivers real value for our community."
The site was sold for $6 million following an open tender process.
CJAM Group is expected to lodge its development application later this year.
Cr Farquhar said Council had taken steps to ensure the project progresses in a timely way.
"The contract includes covenants designed to prevent land banking and ensure the development commences within expected timeframes."
Council has included a buy‑back clause, allowing Council to repurchase the land at the original sale price should key development milestones not be met.
