Salisbury turns Harmony Day into Harmony Week

To commemorate the 20thanniversary of Harmony Day, The City of Salisbury is holding a week of activities.

The City of Salisbury is a vibrant, multi-cultural community boasting citizens from more than 40 countries.

"With 31 percent of our population born overseas and a large Indigenous population, we are truly a diverse community. Harmony Day gives us an opportunity to celebrate and embrace our similarities and differences, but most importantly it allows us to learn from each other," said Mayor Gillian Aldridge OAM.

"The City of Salisbury has a firm and real commitment tojohn our multicultural community, as we showed in 2017 by releasing our ten year Intercultural Strategic Plan, which sets out our vision of each and every member of our community feeling accepted and welcome.

At the John Harvey Gallery, we will celebrate Harmony Day on 21 March, which is also the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

Moving beyond Harmony, is the theme of a breakfast event being held by the Morella Community Centre at the Watershed Function Centre and Café at Mawson Lakes. It will be held on Harmony Day, Thursday 21 March 2019.

Guest speaker, Tasneem Chopra will explore ways in which people can truly commit to eliminating racism and discrimination. Ms Chopra has been appointed an Anti-Racism Ambassador by the Australian Human Rights Commission and was listed in 2017 as one of 50 Women you Need to Know by the Herald Sun International Women's Day count. Following the breakfast, local Kaurna elder, will guide a walk on country across the Greenfields Wetlands.
