Red Shield Appeal Doorknock Results

Vital Salvation Army community services are set to gain a significant boost after the Salvos raised more than $4 million during its annual Red Shield Appeal.

The Salvation Army's Lieutenant-Colonel Neil Venables thanked the Australian public for their generosity, and said the success of the Doorknock would underpin vital community services for another year.

"In the days before the Red Shield Appeal we released financial counselling research, which highlighted the challenges faced by the people we help as they struggle to make ends meet," Lieut-Colonel Neil Venables said.

"The Red Shield Appeal help keep the doors open to our many services. It ensures that we can continue to support the women and children who are fleeing domestic violence, the people trapped in drug and alcohol addiction, the youth who are sleeping on our streets, and so much more."

Early results show once again that the Australian public has dug deep to support this year's appeal.

"Volunteers will continue to collect donations in the coming weeks as we work towards our $8 million goal," Lieut-Colonel Venables said.

"We sincerely thank the 50,000 volunteers nation-wide who knocked on more than half a million doors and collected in over 2,000 locations."

Lieut-Colonel Venables said the Red Shield Appeal was a vital initiative which helped the Salvos assist hundreds of thousands of Australians every year.

The Salvation Army would also like to acknowledge the business community for its support of this year's appeal.

"Each year, the Australian business community rallies behind the Red Shield Appeal and we could not do this without their support. We would like to especially thank Westpac, Woolworths, JLL, McDonald's and Bunnings," he said.
