"Santa" sought in investigation over robbery and arson at Camperdown

Detectives are seeking public assistance to help identify a "bad Santa" who was seen on CCTV footage following a robbery and arson attack in Sydney's Inner West on Christmas Day 2016.

About 9:40pm on Tuesday 25 December 2016, a man wearing a Santa hat and beard walked into the rear entrance of a business, situated on Sparkes Street, Camperdown, carrying two large plastic drums.

While inside, the man allegedly stole a number of items, including a sum of money, and proceeded to pour an accelerant around the premises before setting it alight.

The man then fled on foot on Sparkes Street, Camperdown towards Arundel Street, Forest Lodge.

A crime scene was established by officers from Leichhardt Police Area Command and an investigation was launched.

As inquiries continue, detectives have released CCTV vision of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.
