Sarah Blizzard to Speak at Intl Womens Day Tea

Fresh from representing Australia at the Winter Olympics, local sports star Sarah Blizzard will make her first public appearance at Ararat Rural City's 2026 International Women's Day Morning Tea on Wednesday 11 March as guest speaker.

The free community event will be held at the Ararat RSL Function Room from 10.30am to bring together residents from across the municipality to celebrate women's leadership, resilience and contribution to community life.

Hosted by Deputy Mayor Cr Teli Kaur as MC, the morning tea will feature a panel of local women who each bring a unique perspective on leadership and community connection:

  • Sarah Blizzard - Winter Olympian and former Ararat resident, who will share her journey from local sport to representing Australia on the world stage, and what leadership and persistence mean to her both on and off the slopes.
  • Sandra Marriner - Leading Senior Constable with Victoria Police, speaking about service, mentorship and the importance of women's voices in community safety and support.
  • Rowena Murray - Founder and President of the Ararat Women's Shed, reflecting on the power of local spaces that bring women together to learn, share and build confidence.
  • Catherine Howison - Principal of Marian College Ararat, exploring how education, inclusion and opportunity shape the next generation of women leaders.

Mayor Cr Bob Sanders said the event celebrated the many ways women lead in the Ararat community.

"Each of these speakers shows leadership through action - in sport, community safety, education and the everyday work of building connection," Cr Sanders said. "International Women's Day is about recognising those contributions and inspiring the next generation to participate, belong and lead."

Community members are encouraged to gather friends, colleagues or group members and book early, as places are limited. Light refreshments will be provided.
