Sassafras driver returns 0.187 reading

A Sassafras man has been charged after police caught him driving while more than three times the legal alcohol limit.

Police were conducting mobile patrols on Saturday December 10, when the driver overtook officers on the Bass Highway at Don about 9pm.

The man was observed swerving over the road, only just missing multiple other cars.

The driver was intercepted as a result, returning a positive alcohol test and was transported to the Devonport Police Station.

A further breath analysis revealed his reading to be 0.187.

The man was charged with exceed 0.05, Drive Whilst under the influence of an intoxicating liquor, Driving whilst disqualified and was disqualified from driving for a further 24 months.

He was later bailed to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court on February 5, 2024.

Acting Sergeant Samantha Hardy urged drivers to remain vigilant on the roads, particularly at this busy time of year.

"As traffic flow increases and Christmas festivities increase, we must not get complacent in our duty to take care on our roads and keep each other safe," Acting Sergeant Hardy said.
