Save Date For Harmony Day

Ararat Rural City is planning a big Harmony Day celebration at Ararat Town Hall on Saturday, March 21, as part of Harmony Week.

Residents from across the Ararat region are invited to share a smorgasbord of flavours from around the world prepared by Ararat Neighbourhood House and Rural Australians for Refugees (RAR) and local volunteers.

There will be music and dance performances by representatives of the Karen, Indian, Scottish, Filipino, Fijian and Soloman Islander communities, as well as a performance by local musician Ferelise Bonollan.

Adding to the festival atmosphere will be traditional games from other countries and handcrafts for sale.

Mayor Councillor Bob Sanders said after the incredible turnout at last year's Cultural Showcase Luncheon last December in Ararat, organisers anticipate an even bigger show of support on Harmony Day.

"Over the past couple of decades, Ararat's multicultural community has continued to grow, and cultural diversity is now simply part of everyday life and something the town truly values," said Cr Sanders.

"The community is proud to welcome people who have arrived for a safer way of life after facing incredibly difficult circumstances, as well as those who have chosen Ararat to chase new dreams and opportunities. So, in saying that, let's keep sharing our stories and learning about each other because what we have here is really special."

The growing list of event supporters working closely with Council to host this major community event also includes Neighbourhood House, RAR, Bakers Delight Ararat, Wyndham Community Education Centre, ALF Ararat Anglican Church and volunteers.

To make sure there's enough food for everyone, registration is essential via www.ararattownhall.com.au or at the Ararat Town Hall Box Office (situated at the Visitor Information Centre).
