One person's trash is another person's treasure, with Garage Sale Trail returning this November for two weekends of buying, selling, swapping and reusing.

Garage Sale Trail is Australia's biggest secondhand treasure hunt, making it the perfect opportunity to declutter, sell, swap or give away unwanted quality items and make some money. Every November, homes, unit blocks, schools, community groups and charities across the country host garage sales and secondhand markets, all on the same two weekends.

This year, Garage Sale Trail will be held on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November and then again on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November for two weekends of buying, selling and reusing.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Vince Ferreri, said it was free to take part in the initiative.

"You simply list your garage sale to get a sale page online that provides what's on offer and get to work decluttering," he said.

"More than 4 million pre-loved items go up for sale so you can find almost anything on the Garage Sale Trail, so it's an incredible movement to be part of.

"Did you know the average garage sale made $683, and $65,523 was made for local households, community groups and charities at last year's event? And even more amazing than that is the fact that, thanks to this initiative, Australians managed to keep 418 tonnes of products and items in use, saving it from landfill."

No garage? No worries! Camden and Wollondilly Shire Councils are joining forces again for Macarthur's Biggest Garage Sale on Saturday 14 November, 8am-3pm, at Onslow Park, 1 Cawdor Road in Camden. This much-loved event allows residents and community groups who can't or prefer not to sell at their own property to still get involved by selling their pre-loved items from a car boot or their own stall as part of a group sale.
