Search after fatal Mooroolbark assault

Homicide Squad detectives are investigating after a man died in hospital following a serious assault in Mooroolbark on Christmas night.

Investigators were told up to eight people were involved in an altercation outside a property on Esther Crescent just before 11pm.

A 50-year-old Mooroolbark man was struck to the head and taken to hospital where he subsequently passed away.

A 59-year-old Mooroolbark woman was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

At this time no one has been charged in relation to the death or the altercation on this date.

On 27 December, police responded to a second altercation at the same address.

Four people were subsequently charged with affray in relation to this incident including a 28-year-old Maryborough man, 33-year-old Lilydale man, 27-year-old woman from no fixed address, and a Mooroolbark woman.

They were all bailed to appear at Ringwood Magistrates' Court on 25 May.

Homicide Squad detectives, along with assistance from the SES, are today conducting a line search along Esther Crescent and surrounding streets as part of the investigation.

Police are particularly searching for any weapons or items which may have been used in the 25 December affray.

They are also asking for residents in the local area who has located, sighted, or has knowledge of any weapons used in the affray, or has located any foreign objects on their property which could have been used as weapons, to contact police.
