Search and rescue, Sandfly Creek

Townsville water police have launched a search and rescue for a missing fisherman.

Around 6.30am a commercial fishing vessel operating off shore from Sandfly Creek found a 45-year-old man floating in the water signally for help. His boat, a small recreational fishing vessel had overturned during the night, with his fishing companion unaccounted for.

He was rescued by the commercial ship and taken to shore where he was treated for exposure and transported to hospital in stable condition.

A large scale search and rescue has been launched for the missing 41-year-old Townsville man and the vessel, a white Quintrex coast runner around 4 metres long with Queensland registration RD806Q.

Multiple water police vessels, coastguard and aerial assets have been deployed in search for him.
