Search resumes for missing snorkeller near Batemans Bay

A search has resumed for a man who went missing while snorkelling on the South Coast yesterday.

About 3.30pm (Monday 25 January 2021), emergency services were called to Richmond Beach in the Murramarang National Park, just north of Batemans Bay, after reports a snorkeller entered the water and was not seen again.

Police have been told the 39-year-old man entered the water from the rocks to go snorkelling.

When he failed to return and could not be located, authorities were notified.

Officers attached to South Coast Police District attended and commenced a search of the area with assistance from Surf Life Saving NSW, Marine Rescue, Eurobodalla Shire Council Lifeguard and the Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter. It was scaled back at 8pm due to bad light.

The search resumed about 6am today (Tuesday 26 January 2021).

Assistance has been sought from the Marine Area Command, Police Divers and PolAir.
