The Australian and New Zealand National Council for fire and emergency services (AFAC) has released its Seasonal Bushfire Outlook for Spring (September to November) 2025, which highlights the Northern Territory bushfire risk as remaining within the normal range.
Top End regions are expected to experience typical late dry season fire activity until significant rainfall arrives, which is anticipated to set in earlier than usual.
The Barkly, Tanami and Alice Springs districts may continue to see fire activity through to November; however, conditions are expected to be significantly milder than those experienced in 2023. Wetter conditions, particularly in Alice Springs and the Barkly may help to reduce wildfire potential.
Fire Danger Period Declarations remain in place until October for the Vernon Arafura Fire Management Zone, areas within the Savanna Fire Management Zone and Carpentaria East, Barkly North and Barkly South.

Quotes from Bushfires NT Executive Director, Jacqui Forrest:
"While we are expecting our bushfire risk to remain within the normal range, we may still experience extreme days. Monitor the fire danger rating and conditions on the Bushfires NT and Secure NT sites.
"Maintain your firebreaks and keep areas around structures and stationary equipment clear from flammable material.
"Bushfire safety is everyone's responsibility. You can play your part by having a current bushfire survival plan and going through it with all members of your household, so they know what to do and where to go in the event of an emergency."
Quotes from NT Fire and Rescue Service Chief Fire Control Officer, Stephen Sewell AFSM:
"At the tail end of the dry season, fire activity in the Top End heats up. We encourage the community to stay up to date with alerts and warnings by following Secure NT and the NTFRS and Bushfires NT social media channels.
"If there's smoke across the road, please slow down and turn your headlights on as firefighters can be working close to the roadside.
"I would like to thank our responding crews, auxiliaries and volunteers for their dedication and commitment to keeping the community safe."
