The Tasmanian Government is calling for tenders to construct a second lookout within Freycinet National Park overlooking Wineglass Bay.
The $700,000 project is jointly funded through the Tasmanian Government's Improving Statewide Visitor Infrastructure program and the Federal Government's National Tourism Icons Package.
Minister for Environment and Parks Roger Jaensch said the new lookout would reduce congestion in peak times at the ever-popular Wineglass Bay.
"Freycinet is one of the jewels in Tasmania's crown of stunning natural locations, and this new lookout will ease congestion issues and ensure the area can be enjoyed by Tasmanians and visitors for years to come.
"It will provide a new elevated viewing platform and walkway below and adjoining to the existing Wineglass Bay Lookout.
"The new lookout was identified as a priority in the Freycinet Peninsula Master Plan 2019 and has been deliberately designed to blend into the landscape and improve the experience for visitors.
"It's a great outcome that will not only benefit visitors in the long-term, but will also support jobs and the economy in Coles Bay and the surrounding region as the state continues to recover from the impacts of COVID-19."
Assistant Minister for Regional Tourism Jonno Duniam said the project would encourage even more visitors out of the city centres to experience the unique tourism attractions Tasmania has to offer.
"There is no doubt that Freycinet is one of Tasmania's most stunning locations and I am proud to be part of a Government that is taking action to both preserve and enhance it.
"As Tasmania's economy recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, I encourage all Tasmanians to travel our beautiful state and visit our regions that rely on tourism ."
