Second man charged over home invasion - Lavington

A second man has been charged over an alleged home invasion in the state's south last week.

About 8.15am Monday 26 September 2022, officers attached to Murray River Police District were called to a unit on Prune Street, Lavington, following reports of an alleged home invasion.

As police arrived, a Jeep SUV was driven from the unit before it allegedly drove into a police vehicle.

A pursuit was initiated, during which the Jeep allegedly collided with a Toyota Echo at the intersection of Prune and Haigh Streets, before continuing.

The pursuit was terminated a short time later.

The driver of the Toyota – a man in his 40s – suffered minor injuries; the officers were not injured.

Following inquiries, officers were called to a vehicle fire nearby a short time later.

Two people allegedly ran from the scene, with the alleged driver arrested after a short foot pursuit.

The man – aged 28 – was taken to Albury Police Station where he was charged with six offences; he remains before the courts.

Following further inquiries, officers attended a home on Monkhouse Place, North Albury, and arrested a 22-year-old man, about 10.50am yesterday (Tuesday 4 October 2022).

He was taken to Albury Police Station where he was charged with four offences:

  • Aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence – serious indictable offence,
  • Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner,
  • Enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse, and,
  • Passenger not disclose driver's/other passenger's identity.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Albury Local Court today (Wednesday 5 October 2022).
