Second man charged over home invasion - Riverina

A second man has been charged over an alleged home invasion in the state's Riverina earlier this year.

About 6.30am on Sunday 11 April 2021, a 46-year-old woman walked outside her unit on Kokoda Street, Ashmont, after hearing noises.

Police have been told the woman was allegedly assaulted by three unknown people, who forced her back inside and smashed the front window of the property while demanding money from a second occupant, a 68-year-old man, who was then allegedly assaulted with a shovel and stabbed.

It's alleged the woman was then assaulted and had her personal belongings stolen.

In April 2021, detectives from Riverina Police District established Strike Force Xamab to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following extensive inquiries, a 22-year-old man was arrested on Baylis Street, Wagga Wagga, on Friday 16 July 2021.

He remains before the courts.

Following further investigation, about 11.45am yesterday (Tuesday 20 July 2021), Strike Force Xamab Detectives arrested a 26-year-old man in Fitzmaurice Street, Wagga Wagga.

He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station, where he was charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence.

The Mount Austin man was refused bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Wednesday 21 July 2021).
