Second round of Access Asia grants open for business

  • Small to medium-sized WA businesses and associations encouraged to apply for grants to support business growth with Asia
  • Grants of up to $10,000 available for projects in WA's priority industry sectors
  • Grants program part of McGowan Government's Asian Engagement Strategy supporting WA businesses to create jobs by diversifying trade with Asia
  • Asian Engagement Minister Peter Tinley has opened round two of the Access Asia Business Grants Program to support small to medium enterprises in Western Australia grow trade with key Asian markets.

    Grants of up to $10,000 are available to help organisations build capacity to do business with Asia, including to undertake market visits, attend trade expos, develop culturally appropriate marketing materials and build Asian literacy and capability.

    Funding is available to small to medium sized businesses, industry associations and Asian business councils to support their business efforts in Asia, including key markets such as China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam and Singapore.

    Businesses must be working in one of the six priority sectors identified in Diversify WA, the McGowan Government's economic development framework.

    Those sectors are Energy; Tourism, Events and Creative Industries; International Education; Mining and Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS); Technology and Advanced Manufacturing; and Primary Industries.

    Access Asia Business Grants are an initiative of the State Government's Asian Engagement Strategy 2019-2030: Our Future with Asia announced in August 2019 to support Asia-focused WA organisations to diversify the economy and help create jobs.

    "Access Asia Business Grants are a great way for WA businesses and organisations to increase their links with Asia, focusing on activities that connect WA businesses and potential Asian clients, and increase Asian literacy for local businesses.

    "The grants help businesses capture the opportunities that exist to export WA's world-leading resources, produce, services and skills to Asia, and promote our outstanding tourism, agriculture, energy, technology, manufacturing and education industries.

    "WA's economic future is tied to Asia's rapidly expanding economies, and Access Asia grants demonstrate the McGowan Government's plan to deliver on its Asian Engagement Strategy, diversify the economy and create jobs for WA."
