Secret SRLA Minutes Battle at VCAT Today

Liberal Party Victoria
Jacinta Allan is fighting to stop the release of minutes from a secret interdepartmental oversight committee responsible for the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL).

The Government has refused to provide these documents through the Freedom of Information process, and today David Davis will face the Department of Premier and Cabinet at VCAT over three FOIs, some dating back to 2021.

In the case of Z40, a tranche of interdepartmental meetings OVIC on the 29th December 2023 ordered the release of key documents but the Government appealed against that release.

This interdepartmental committee was established to oversee the SRL project.

Shadow Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction, David Davis said, "Transparency not secrecy is the key and a particularly important one when it comes to preventing major project cost overruns."

"It is in the public interest for major projects to be closely scrutinised. The SRL has been the subject of continuous and massive cost overruns, and the Victorian public has a right to know why.

"The Government argues these documents should be kept secret from the Victorian public, but it is everyday hardworking Victorians who will be slugged with the costs of the SRL.

"What do they have to hide?"

"The VCAT hearing is an open hearing, and I encourage Victorians to log in and watch how this Labor Government tries to avoid scrutiny and transparency."
