The Secretary met today in Munster, Germany with Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa. Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Hayashi discussed the imperative of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. They also discussed the DPRK's continued dangerous and destabilizing actions and affirmed the need for the international community to unite in holding the DPRK accountable. The Secretary praised the Foreign Minister for Japan's global leadership and welcomed Japan's 2023 G7 presidency and UN Security Council membership. The Secretary emphasized the importance of Japan's strong and continued support for Ukraine and our deepening cooperation in the Indo-Pacific across a range of issues, including energy security, and secure supply chains.
