Seize chance to shape future of Mornington Peninsula

Two weeks into Mornington Peninsula Shire's ambitious community vision project Imagine: Peninsula 2040, more than 1,000 people have given their feedback on what they think life on the Mornington Peninsula should look like in 2040.

The Shire is committed to making this the biggest and most inclusive community engagement exercise it has ever done and is encouraging people to be involved in our community vision whichever way it suits them best.

People can do the survey online at mornpen.vic.gov.au/2040; they can meet our Community Engagement Ambassadors who are out and about across the Peninsula for a chat and fill in a hard copy survey; they can pick up a postcard, write their thoughts and post it to the Shire free-of-charge; or they can join one of our public community forums for open discussions.

There are five upcoming online public forums on 25-27 May, where people can give their thoughts and ideas on what is important to them regarding the future of the Mornington Peninsula and discuss these issues with other community members.

The sessions will be facilitated by community engagement specialists, Mosaic Lab. Please visit mornpen.vic.gov.au/2040forums to register. Places are limited to 100 people per session. If the sessions are booked out, community members can contact the Shire and it will try to arrange another opportunity for collecting feedback.

There are several ways the community can share their ideas for Imagine Peninsula 2040:

  • Take the survey online at mornpen.vic.gov.au/2040.
  • Write your ideas on a postcard, which can be picked up from a Shire office.
  • Fill out a hard copy survey, which can be picked up from our ambassadors or Shire office.
  • Register for one of our five public online forums.
  • Arrange you own get together with friends, discuss what's important to you and fill in the survey together.

The public forum dates and times, plus the schedule of Peninsula 2040 ambassador locations and activities can also be found at mornpen.vic.gov.au/2040.

Once the community has created its shared vision of what it wants the future to look like, Council will be able to develop policies, programs and projects that steer the Peninsula in that direction.

Quotes attributable to Mayor Cr Despi O'Connor:

"The Imagine: Peninsula 2040 project is for everyone who cares about what the future looks like on the Mornington Peninsula. This is your opportunity to tell us what is important to you. What do you love and want to protect? What would you change? What kind of place do you want it to be for your kids?

We'll be asking these questions to as many people as possible throughout May. We are listening and we want to hear what your vision is for the future."
