On November 23, 2018, at about 1:15 p.m., staff members confiscated multiple packages containing contraband from a visitor to Atlantic Institution, a maximum security federal institution.

This seizure is the result of the combined efforts of detector-dog team and security intelligence officers. The contraband seized includes 72 grams of marijuana and 3 grams of "shatter" (cannabis concentrates). The total institutional value of this seizure is estimated at $8,400.

The visitor was arrested by the Blackville detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and may face criminal charges.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.
