Running throughout October, the Mornington Peninsula Shire Seniors Festival is the perfect opportunity to stay active, enjoy entertainment, meet new people, and explore the many clubs, services and events available across the Peninsula. Many of these opportunities continue year-round, making the festival a great starting point for ongoing participation in community life.
Featuring more than 90 free and low-cost events ($1-$20*), the festival showcases a diverse program delivered by community groups, neighbourhood houses, sporting clubs, cultural organisations and Shire teams.
Mayor Stephen Batty said the festival is a chance to celebrate and connect with the many opportunities available to older residents across the Peninsula.
"The Seniors Festival is about bringing people together, trying something new and enjoying all that life on the Mornington Peninsula has to offer," Cr Batty said.
"I encourage everyone to explore the program, connect with others and enjoy the many activities taking place throughout October."
Among this year's highlights is Get Active Week, a new initiative showcasing the opportunities available across the Shire's aquatic and leisure centres. From aqua classes and fitness sessions to social sport and health checks, participants can try something new and discover programs designed to support healthy, active living. The week begins with the Get Active Expo at Somerville Recreation Centre.
The festival also shines a spotlight on the Shire's Seniors Exercise Parks in Hastings and Mount Martha. Purpose-built for older adults, these outdoor spaces help improve strength, balance and mobility while providing opportunities for social connection in a welcoming environment.
For those considering a return to work, a career change or additional income, the Work for Money and Enjoyment Forum at Safety Beach Sailing Club offers practical advice from industry experts. The session explores employment opportunities and support available to older workers.
Film-lovers can enjoy a special screening of the Multicultural Film Festival at Rosebud Cinema that celebrates stories of resilience, hope and cultural identity.
Rounding out the month is the Bee Gees Revival concert at George Jenkins Theatre, where audience members can relive the songs that made the iconic group a worldwide sensation.
