Older Tasmanians help shape our communities, strengthen our economy, and enrich the lives of generations across Tasmania, and this October, we are proud to celebrate their contributions as part of Seniors Month 2026.
This year's Seniors Month will showcase the diverse interests, talents, and achievements of older Tasmanians through community events, educational activities, cultural experiences, social gatherings, and opportunities to connect across generations.
Minister for Ageing, Bridget Archer, said that there are many activities and events being held throughout the month to recognise the valuable role older people play in our families and communities.
"Seniors Month is an opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary contribution that older Tasmanians make every day as volunteers, carers, workers, mentors, community leaders, and family members," Minister Archer said.
"I want to acknowledge the important role of Council on the Ageing (COTA) Tasmania, which works with community organisations, local government, businesses, and volunteers to coordinate and promote Seniors Month activities across the State.
"The voices of older Tasmanians matter. Through initiatives such as the Older Tasmanians Ministerial Advisory Council and our support of organisations like COTA Tasmania, we are ensuring those voices help shape the policy and services that impact their lives."
This year's Seniors Month comes as Tasmania progresses implementation of A Respectful, Age-Friendly Island: Older Tasmanians Action Plan 2025-2029 and continues to strengthen engagement with older Tasmanians through the newly established Older Tasmanians Ministerial Advisory Council.
"I encourage all individuals, families, community groups, and businesses to support Seniors Month by attending local events and recognising the significant influence of older people in our communities," Minister Archer said.
"Whether you're attending an event, visiting an older neighbour, volunteering your time, or simply thanking someone, everyone can play a role in celebrating Seniors Month.
"I encourage all Tasmanians to get involved and help make this year's Seniors Month a meaningful celebration of the people who have contributed so much to our State and continue to do so every day."
