Seniors Week in Surf Coast Shire

The Victorian Seniors Festival will be memorable in more ways than one for people who attend an event at Torquay Community House.

Titled 'Super Brain Train For Seniors', the free workshop will welcome wellness educator Maggie Flanagan who will share the latest brain protective science and activities that people can do to improve memory as they age.

Torquay Community House was one of four successful applicants in Council's Positive Ageing grants. The grants are for local events and activities to be held as part of the 2019 Victorian Seniors Festival, celebrated throughout October.

Other grant recipients were Great Ocean Road Health's Seniors Festival High Tea (10 October), Torquay Senior Citizens' Home Cheese-making Workshop (11 October), and Star of the Sea Art exhibition (12 October).

Councillor Margot Smith said each of the events was included in a local Victorian Seniors Festival calendar.

"The local calendar outlines the wide variety of events across the coast and hinterland as part of Victorian Seniors Festival celebrations," Cr Smith said.

"Hopefully there's something that suits everyone. From group exercise to an online family history workshop to café chats about mental health – I encourage people to look at the calendar and find an event they're interested in. It's a fantastic way to connect with others, and to celebrate your wonderful contribution to our community.

"Well done to the community groups who have organised events to mark Seniors Festival."
