Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam vision following an incident in Port Douglas on 3 September.
Officers were driving on Port Douglas Road around 10.30am when they observed an 81-year-old man lying on the side of the road.
Initial investigations indicate the man had pulled over to purchase bananas from a stall, when he was approached by an unknown male.
The men reportedly became involved in a short verbal altercation, before the unknown male pushed the 81-year-old man, stole the bananas and fled in a grey vehicle, north on Port Douglas Road.
The 81-year-old man was transported to Mossman Hospital with significant but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam or CCTV from Port Douglas Road on the morning of 3 September, to come forward.
