Around 6.30pm police were called following multiple reports of a man being assaulted by a small group of people believed to be armed with baseball bats in parklands off Rosemary Street.

The man was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with life-threatening head injuries.

A 23-year-old man was arrested in the vicinity shortly afterwards and was taken to the Richlands Watchhouse where he is assisting investigators with their inquiries.
