Serious assault at Yarrabah

Cairns detectives have charged a man with multiple offences following the alleged serious assault of a woman in Yarrabah overnight.

Police will allege around 7pm last night (May 1) a 41-year-old woman was stabbed in the back by a man known to her while at an address on Workshop Road.

The woman was treated for her injuries at the scene by paramedics before being transported for further treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

A 46-year-old local man left the scene and surrendered himself to police a short time later.

He has been charged with wounding (domestic violence offence) and contravention of a domestic violence order.

The man was denied police bail and is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday, May 3.
